How much do removals cost in London?

The cost of your move depends on the size of your home, how far you are going, the floor and access at each address, and the amount of packing you need. Your moving date matters too, because busy dates cost more. Every home is different, so we give you a fixed price after a free video survey, with no hidden fees.

London moves also carry public charges that other parts of the country do not. It helps to know these before you budget:

1. The Congestion Charge. This applies to central London. As of January 2026 it is £18 per day, up from £15. It runs from 7am to 6pm every day. Moving vans are not exempt. Electric vehicles used to be exempt but now pay too, with a discount for those on Auto Pay.
2. ULEZ, the Ultra Low Emission Zone. This covers all London boroughs and runs 24 hours a day. Non compliant vehicles pay £12.50 per day. Our fleet meets the standard, so you do not pay this with us.
3. Parking suspension. In many streets you need to book and pay the council to reserve a bay for the van. More on this below.

We include the charges that apply to your move in your fixed quote, so the price does not change on the day. You can check any vehicle against the emissions rules on the Transport for London website.

Areas we cover across London

We move homes and offices across Greater London and the surrounding counties. Below is how we think about the main areas. Local knowledge shapes how we plan each job.

Central London. The City, Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea, Marylebone, and the West End. This is the hardest area to move in. It sits inside the Congestion Charge zone, parking is controlled, red routes ban stopping, and many homes are flats or mansion blocks with tight access. We plan parking, permits, and timing before the day.

West and South West London. Fulham, Chelsea, Hammersmith, Chiswick, Ealing, Acton, Putney, Wimbledon, and Richmond. This side of the city sits on our route out toward the M4 and M40, which suits us well for both London moves and moves out to our home counties.

North London. Camden, Islington, Hampstead, Highgate, and Finchley. A mix of period terraces, garden flats, and mansion blocks. Camden and Islington are strict on parking notice, so we arrange suspensions early.

South London. Clapham, Battersea, Wandsworth, Brixton, and Dulwich. Wandsworth is one of the cheaper boroughs for parking suspensions, which can help your budget.

East London. Shoreditch, Hackney, Bow, Stratford, and the Docklands. Canary Wharf and the Docklands have many high rise blocks with service lifts you must book ahead. We handle that for you.

Greater London and the M25 edge. The outer boroughs and the towns just beyond, where our home counties coverage begins.

What you need to know about moving in London

London has rules that other places do not. Getting these right is the difference between a smooth day and a day of fines and delays. Here is what matters, in plain terms.

Parking and permits for the removal van

In most London streets you cannot just pull up outside. Many roads are in Controlled Parking Zones, where bays are for permit holders. To give the van a legal space, you book a parking bay suspension from the council. This reserves the bay for your move.

Every one of London’s 32 boroughs sets its own fees and notice period. Most charge around £40 to £120 per bay, per day. Notice periods run from about 3 to 10 working days. Camden, Westminster, and Kensington and Chelsea need more notice and cost more. Some outer boroughs, like Bexley, have few controlled streets and may need no suspension at all. Without a suspension where one is needed, you risk a Penalty Charge Notice, and the van may have to keep moving while the crew carries your things much further.

The Congestion Charge and ULEZ

As covered above, central London has an £18 daily Congestion Charge from 7am to 6pm, and moving vans must pay it. The ULEZ covers all boroughs 24 hours a day, at £12.50 per day for older vehicles. Our fleet is ULEZ compliant, so you avoid that fee with us. One useful tip: a move that starts before 7am or after 6pm can avoid the Congestion Charge if it crosses into the central zone.

Red routes and loading rules

Red routes are the main roads marked with red lines. You cannot stop on them, not even to load, except in a marked bay during set hours. We plan the load point so the van is legal and close, and we never block a red route.

Moving into flats and high rise blocks

For flats, the lift is everything. Where a building has a service lift, we book it for your time slot so we are not waiting. For walk ups with no lift, we bring enough crew to carry safely and keep the day on track. Tell us the floor and whether there is a lift when you book.

Building access and freeholder rules

Many blocks have a concierge, a loading bay, or set hours when moves are allowed. Some need building management. If you can, check your lease or ask your building manager, and tell us what you find so we plan around it.

The best time to move in London

Midweek moves are usually cheaper and easier than Fridays, weekends, and the end of the month. Off peak dates mean lower demand, better access, and often a lower price for the same job.

What happens on moving day

Here is how a typical move with us runs.

Before the day. We agree your fixed price after a video survey, confirm the date, and sort any parking suspension and building access.

We arrive and protect. The crew arrives on time. We lay floor and door protection and wrap furniture with blankets before it moves.

We load. We load in a planned order, sturdy items first, fragile items packed and marked. Nothing goes in loose.

We drive. Your belongings travel in our own vans with our own crew. No agency labour and no last minute subcontractors.

We unload and place. At the new home we carry each item to the right room, so you are not shifting things later. We rebuilt any furniture we took apart.

We check. Before we leave, we walk through with you to make sure everything is where you want it.
