Moving in Brighton: the parking, explained

Parking is the single biggest thing that makes a Brighton move different, so here is the real detail.

Most of central Brighton and large parts of Hove sit inside controlled parking zones, where the kerb is resident-permit or pay and display. A removals van cannot legally park on a permit bay without a suspension in place. To reserve space, you apply to Brighton and Hove City Council to suspend a bay. It costs around £51 per bay per calendar day, a bay is 5.5 metres so a larger lorry often needs two, and the council needs at least seven full working days’ notice to place the yellow notices on the street. There is also a small admin fee, reduced for people with a Brighton and Hove address, including new residents moving in.

What we can and cannot move
